STEPPER v1.8
Hello STEPPER folk!
Time has come once again for a major project update. This update features:
- A higher resolution clock for more accurate tempo
- Note that timing in emulators can be wonky, but on real hardware (including the Analogue Pocket) it should be fairly close to your DAW clock.
- Added more sync in/out options to improve the compatibility with external gear. This also adds compatibility with Analogue's sync cables (Pocket to MIDI IN, Pocket to Analog Sync Cable, Pocket to MIDI USB-A Cable)
- Editing channel parameters (ALL) will now only copy only the values under the cursor, so now you can, for example change the trig probabilities for all the triggers without changing the sound. Likewise, channel parameters in grey are those that don't match all triggers in the pattern.
- The selected scale is now saved globally so that you can continue where you left off.
- Allow using B + dpad to nudge trigs, swapping them with the one in the selected direction.
- Holding the DPAD or L/R buttons will retrigger at short intervals for faster navigation and parameter adjustments.
- Add a quirky lofi attack and decay envelope for ch3 (synced to tempo). This only works for CH modes A or B, A+B mode behaves the same as before.
- Add more help hints that dynamically adjust if certain buttons are pressed (Try holding SELECT to check some of these out, on the scale mode it will show the scale names and root notes, same as if the help mode was disabled).
- If an pattern chain is active and currently playing, the chain is always shown on the notification bar regardless of the help toggle settings. Pausing or stopping playback will display back the help hints.
- Improve overall performance in a multitude of ways.
- Bug Fixing
- Fix bank switching behaviour
- Fix clipboard not copying probability and panning
- Fix scale being active for noise channel (it made no sense)
- Fix bug with not being able to stop the sound when synced
Some demos:
This is gonna be the last update for STEPPER in a while (bugfixes aside). I believe with these changes, STEPPER is on a good spot as I had originally envisioned. I think it can now transform the GBA into a powerful instrument where one can get lost jamming with ease, with an intuitive interface and a fast workflow. But fear not, development will not end here! Instead, we are setting our goals higher to bring even more ease of use and fun music software to GBAs all over the world. Stay tuned in the future and feel free to drop a couple of bucks if you want to support future development, I really appreciate it!
Cheers!
